Paper
Lyrics:
Youʼre under the water,\\ntrying to pull me under.\\nI reach for you.\\nI reach for you.\\n\nYou can throw it all at me\\nI wonʼt give you up.\\nI can handle all your pain\\ntake it as it comes.\\nI love you right\\nbut you make me feel like.\\n\nPaper\\nyou cut right through\\nIʼm stuck like glue to you.\\nPaper\\nyour darkness pulls\\nI loose control again.\\n\nDrawing every bit of my truth\\ncolor me in with your blue.\\nPaper\\nyou cut right through\\na thousand words for you.\\n\nI know I wasnʼt a part of you plan\\nI know you think that youʼre being a man\\ntell me to leave you alone\\ntell me I would be so better off\\nbut you donʼt understand.\\nI canʼt leave you\\nbaby\\nI canʼt leave you\\n\nBut you make me feel like\\n\nPaper\\nyou cut right through\\nIʼm stuck like glue to you.\\nPaper\\nyour darkness pulls\\nI loose control again.\\nDrawing every bit of my truth\\ncolor me in with your blue.\\nPaper\\nyou cut right through\\na thousand words for you.\\n\n- -\\n\nPaper\\nyou cut right through\\nIʼm stuck like glue to you.\\nPaper\\nyour darkness pulls\\nI loose control again.\\n\nDrawing every bit of my trutt\\ncolor me in with your blue.\\nPaper\\nyou cut right through\\na thousand words for you.
Iceland participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 with the song "Paper" written by Svala Björgvinsdóttir, Einar Egilsson, Lester Mendez and Lily Elise. The song was performed by Svala Björgvinsdóttir. The Icelandic entry for the 2017 contest in Kyiv, Ukraine was selected through the national final Söngvakeppnin 2017, organised by the Icelandic broadcaster Ríkisútvarpið (RÚV). The selection consisted of two semi-finals and a final, held on 25 February, 4 March and 11 March 2017 respectively. Six songs competed in each semi-final with the top three as selected by a public televote advancing to the final. In the final, the winner was selected over two rounds of voting: the first involved a 50/50 combination of regional jury voting and public televoting, which reduced the six competing entries to two superfinalists and the second round selected the winner exclusively through public televoting. "Paper" performed by Svala emerged as the winner after gaining 62.51% of the public vote. Iceland was drawn to compete in the first semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 9 May 2017. Performing during the show in position 13, "Paper" was not announced among the top 10 entries of the first semi-final and therefore did not qualify to compete in the final.
